Aramai Tie!!! (the ritual of tadau keamaatan ),Sabah,Malaysia

Most native Sabahans consider rice to be more important than just the main staple food. There is a certain sacredness attached to it, for it is a food given to them by Kinoingan, the Almighty Creator so that his people should never want for food. He sacrificed His only daughter- Huminodun and from her body parts, padi (rice) grew. This was Kinoingan's ultimate act of benevolence and to this day, His people repay the deed by conducting various ceremonies to honour Bambaazon, the spirit of Huminodun as embodied in rice.
The most well-known of these is Pesta Kaamatan or Harvest Festival which begins on the first of May and celebrated throughout Sabah. Of major importance to this thanksgiving ceremony is the Magavau - a ritual to invite Bambaazon to the Pesta and is conducted only by the Bobohizan or high priestess. Festivities cannot proceed without the presence of Bambaazon and it is through Magavau that the Rice Spirit is invoked.
In the past, Magavau was conducted in the padi fields on the first full moon night after the harvest. A party of Bobohizan led by the foremost senior, would weave a slow procession through the fields chanting prayers to Bambaazon. A male warrior would walk ahead of this group waving a sword in the air, to ward off any evil that might try to disrupt the ritual. The food offered must be of the best quality. When the spirits come, only the Bobohizan will be able to feel their presence. The spirits will find, neatly laid out for them on banana leaves, the choicest chicken meat, eggs, betel leaves and pinang (areca nut), tobacco and kirai ("rollie"). The finest tapai or rice wine is offered to the spirits.
A second offering arranged in a winnowing tray is placed on a specially built bamboo platform. This is for the spirits to bring back to the spirit world to feed those creatures that would otherwise feed off the padi. Pesta Kaamatan around the state culminates in the state level celebrations on May 30 and 31 every year with Magavau being enacted indoors before the celebrations begin.

Machester United still the winner!!

European Champions Manchester United have started their journey home to England with the Champions League trophy safely stowed on board their jet to the north-west of England.

Following the end of their victory celebrations, reported to have continued until 10 o'clock this morning in Moscow, the United flight was delayed an hour, while Chelsea had already set off for Gatwick.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson revelled in the delight of winning the Champions League in dramatic fashion and then scotched rumours that he was set to retire by looking forward to doing it all again next season.

Ferguson believes his Manchester United side will only get better after their penalty shoot-out victory against Chelsea and can become the first side since AC Milan in 1990 to successfully defend the trophy which has become his driving force.
Man Utd players celebrate after Champions League final win
Morning after: Sir Alex Ferguson enjoys time with his two trophies, the squad head to the airport as the trophy is packed away...but goalkeeping hero Edwin van der Sar would rather have a bowl of Coco Pops

"Defending the European Cup is not an easy thing to do but I think the team is good enough. They will improve next year," he said.

In order to achieve that feat, as well as defending the Premier League title United won earlier this month, Ferguson will again be backed in the transfer market by United owner Malcolm Glazer in the summer.

Both right-back Wes Brown and captain Rio Ferdinand agreed contract extensions prior to the Champions League final and now Ferguson will turn his attention towards Carlos Tevez's future at the club.

The Argentina international, 24, is currently in the middle of a two-year loan deal at Old Trafford, although so highly does he prize the forward that Ferguson has made turning that agreement into a permanent contract his and chief executive David Gill's number one close-season priority.

"I would certainly love to extend my contract," said Tevez. "I would go and sign right now if the opportunity was there."

However Ferguson, who has likened Tevez's influence on matches to that of former United captain Eric Cantona, will need Gill to negotiate with Kia Joorabchian, who holds the player's rights through Media Sports Investment, before any permanent transfer can be confirmed.

Other areas of the team that Ferguson may look to strengthen ahead of a potential hat-trick of league titles could be in attack and the right-back berth.

# Tim Rich: Ronaldo to stay after final | Fitting finale for Drogba
# Kevin Garside: Glory night puts seal on Ferguson legend

Both Michael Owen and Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano have been mentioned as possible transfer targets to take the strain off goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo next season, while United have also been consistency linked throughout the year with Tottenham front man Dimitar Berbatov and Ajax forward Klass-Jan Huntelaar.

Meanwhile, Ferguson has also been alerted in recent weeks to whispers that Micah Richards has become unsettled at city rivals Manchester City, especially with Sven-Goran Eriksson expected to leave Eastlands in the summer.

With question marks continuing to hang over the long-term fitness of club captain Gary Neville and Gerard Pique reported to be on the verge of a move back to Barcelona, the Scot will be keen to bolster his options in defence and sees the powerful England international defender as the ideal answer.

In the immediate aftermath of United's victory in the Russian capital, Ferguson had pronounced himself "delighted" with the outcome, especially as he has now joined a select band of British managers to have won European football's premier club competition on more than one occasion.

Microsoft pays users for searching with Live

has decided that the best way to drive users to its search engine is to pay them a nice cheque. Turning Microsoft’s cash mountain into user clicks must have been agreed at the highest level in Redmond. According to the Live Search cashback site, Microsoft will dole out money to online users who find and buy select products through its Live Search engine. There is a fair bit of cash involved too. The amounts range from two per cent of the purchase price to 30 per cent. Microsoft has signed up a long list of merchants to participate in the programme including Barnes & Noble, Sears, Home Depot, J&R, Office Depot and others.

It is not a marketing system that Microsoft is hiding either. Bill Gates mentioned it yesterday when he was chatting to online advertisers at a Microsoft conference in Redmond. Gates said that in a few years time punters will look back and say, ‘Wow, search started to get a fair bit more competitive around that time.’ Consumers would have to sign up for a free Windows Live cashback account to participate in the program. Rebates would be issued after a 60-day waiting period to make sure there are no returned products.

night market

Pasar malam is a Malay word that literally means night market, "Pasar" being related to "bazaar" in Persian. A pasar malam is a market in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia that opens in the evening, usually in housing areas. It brings together a collection of stalls that usually sell goods such as fruit, vegetables, snacks, toys, clothes, movie discs and ornaments at cheap, reasonable prices. Pasar malams often open only one to a few days of the week, as the traders rotate around different housing areas on different days of the week. Haggling over prices is a common practice at such markets.

Korean is leader of BROADBAND speed?

Information Technology and Innovation Foundation released a major new report, showing how the US and other countries compare in terms of broadband access, speed, and price. The rankings (PDF) place the US 15th, this country having fallen every year since 2001. Here’s the full report (PDF). According to the report’s executive summary:

“The US broadband policy environment is characterized on the one hand by market fundamentalists who see little or no role for government, and see government as the problem; and on the other by digital populists who favor a vastly expanded role for government (including government ownership of networks and strict and comprehensive regulation, including mandatory unbundling of incumbent networks and strict net neutrality regulations) and who see big corporations providing broadband as a problem. Given the policy advocacy and advice they are getting, it is no wonder that Congress and the Administration have done so little.”

The executive summary and more findings are available at the website of ITIF, as well as the table with final Ranking and Full Report (both in PDF format).

Anjung Ketam

Want to find a Restaurant that can fullfill your hungry stomach?.If you come to LABUAN, i will sugest go to "ANJUNG KETAM". This restaurant is sort of on the water...at Tanjung Aru Beach, Labuan. The place is always packed with the locals and also outsiders, so be sure to arrive early. It opens daily 3-11pm but it opens earlier around 10am on public holidays. At night u can see fishermen mending their fishing net...something nice to see.

Favorite Dish: Crabs. Anjung Ketam...Ketam is crab in Malay...so the restaurant is a crab specialty place. My favorite were its crab sweet sour n boiled crab eaten with special sauce.
